Day Treatment / PHP

Our day treatment program, also called partial hospitalization program (PHP), is an important part of our continuum of care for individuals entering Turning Point Centers or “stepping down” from our residential treatment program.

It allows individuals to engage in various counseling and behavioral therapy sessions while living at home or in our sober/transitional living community. The duration of a partial hospitalization program can range from four to six weeks or longer, depending on each participant’s individual requirements and progress.

What to Expect From Day Treatment?

Upon admission, each participant will be assigned a case manager to assist them in settling in and beginning or continuing their recovery journey. Our physicians will examine you for any medical needs that should be incorporated into your treatment plan, provide medication-assisted treatment interventions (if necessary), monitor you during treatment phases, diagnose and treat co-occurring conditions, and serve as your long-term recovery support source.

At Turning Point Centers, we provide an integrated system of care that incorporates the best clinical and medical practices, comprehensive patient measurement and engagement tools, and procedures to ensure that everyone receives a tailored treatment plan. Our licensed team of physicians, therapists, nurses, and other specialists play a commendable role in assisting you during the different phases of treatment and becoming the long-term source of support you require to maintain your recovery journey.

Types of Therapies Provided

Day treatment delivers structured individual and group therapy sessions five days per week. Often, this treatment strategy involves a combination of therapies, such as:

Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) – This psychotherapy employs cognitive restructuring as its basic facilitator to identify and change maladaptive thought processes, beliefs, and perceptions that negatively influence behavior and emotions.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) – This group therapy encourages individuals to accept themselves and their situations, avoid black-and-white thinking and make the necessary positive life changes by learning how to improve self-awareness, emotional regulation, interpersonal relationships, and stress management.

Trauma-Informed Care

Trauma-Informed Care – This strategy examines the relationship between substance abuse and trauma. Individuals learn the impact of trauma on their substance abuse and vice versa. Trauma-informed care provides you with the tools you need to cope with your experiences.

Self-Care

Self-Care – This group therapy teaches individuals how to care for themselves in different areas, such as physical, emotional, relational, spiritual, and psychological. Individuals learn the importance of eating healthy, sleeping well, exercising regularly, maintaining mental health, and establishing healthy relationships.

Family Therapy

Family Therapy – While in treatment, individuals participate in both weekly individual and family therapy sessions. Family therapy helps individuals improve their familial relationships, cast aside judgment, and create a safe space for all involved.

Conflict Resolution

Conflict Resolution – This group therapy aims to help individuals improve communication, problem-solving, and conflict-resolution skills. It teaches you how to effectively respond to powerful emotions, manage anger and conflict without violence, and see a different perspective.

Psychotherapy Process Group

Psychotherapy Process Group – This group therapy helps individuals process their daily struggles, fears, anxieties, and worries. Through feedback from peers and therapists, individuals improve their awareness about themselves and the world and how they relate to others.

Psychoeducation and Life Skills

Psychoeducation and Life Skills – This group therapy aims to help individuals learn more about themselves, understand the reasons behind their actions, acquire specific coping skills, and identify and make necessary changes for a healthy recovery.

Men and Women in Recovery

Men and Women in Recovery – This group therapy is designed to help individuals find their voice as they process gender-specific topics relating to stereotyping, sexism, racism, social stigma, prejudice, and discrimination.

Recovery Management

Recovery Management – Individuals learn skills to create a healthy, conductive lifestyle for long-term recovery by addressing how to create a life with meaning and purpose, identify and cope effectively with internal and external triggers, and adhere to professional and educational commitments.

Recreational Therapy

Recreational Therapy – This therapy helps individuals to explore their feelings, increase self-awareness, and uniquely express themselves. Some of the recreational therapies provided by Turning Point Centers include art, music, yoga, rope, mindfulness, and meditation therapies.

Shame Resilience

Shame Resilience – This group therapy engages individuals on a cognitive, behavioral, and interpersonal level. It helps them recognize shame as a universal experience, understand where it comes from, and encourage them to be open and vulnerable in discussing their feelings and embrace their authentic selves.

Experiential Education

Experiential Education – Individuals participate in activities that foster self-acceptance, identify individual strengths, challenge areas that need emotional growth, improve communication skills, develop a sense of belonging, and promote overall emotional wellness.

While we engage with you in your recovery process, we bear in mind that abstinence is not the final objective. In reality, abstinence is merely the first step in stabilizing the brain and initiating the healing process. Once stabilization is achieved, we will work with you toward preventing relapse.

Benefits of Day Treatment

Day treatment provides a safe, controlled setting for recovery, allowing individuals to receive care while continuing to reside at home or in a sober/transitional living community.

Other benefits of day treatment include:

Comprehensive care

Comprehensive care – PHP provides you access to therapy, medication-assisted treatments, and other addiction and mental health services all in one place.

Regular interactions with professionals

Regular interactions with professionals – Since you will spend a considerable period of your week in treatment, you will interact with addiction and mental health professionals regularly.

Eases the transition from inpatient to outpatient services

Eases the transition from inpatient to outpatient services – PHP bridges the gap between inpatient and outpatient treatment and provides a level of care that falls in between them.

More affordable

More affordable – Since PHP does not require you to stay overnight, it is comparatively cheaper than residential treatment.

The Ideal Candidate for Day Treatment

Although day treatment programs are appropriate for anyone with an addiction and/or mental health disorder, it’s also ideal for individuals who:

  • Require a higher level of care than outpatient treatment.
  • Cannot commit to an inpatient treatment program due to personal and professional commitments.
  • Are in early recovery and are stepping down from a residential treatment program.

What Happens After Day Treatment?

After completing day treatment, individuals are recommended to enroll in a lower form of care, such as an intensive outpatient program (IOP) or outpatient treatment. Turning Point Centers provide a lifetime of aftercare for all our program graduates at no additional cost. We recognize that active participation in the recovery community is crucial to remaining clean and sober. Our commitment to continued involvement with our graduates involves making certain that we are deeply rooted in the communities we serve.
