Transitional/Sober Living

At Turning Point Centers, our transitional living program offers a safe and supportive environment for adults who have completed residential care or for those who are participating in one of our outpatient programs. At our residences in Holladay, Utah, clients can receive the necessary resources to keep making strides on their recovery journey.

What Is Transitional Living?

Transitional living helps clients navigate their path to greater independence by combining the comfort of a homelike atmosphere, the structure of daily routines, and the support of a close-knit community. These elements, together, promote a sense of safety, stability, and belonging.

By living alongside like-minded, recovery-focused individuals, clients can gain a deeper understanding of their own journey and the journeys of others. The connections they form often lead to long-lasting relationships that foster both personal accountability and mutual responsibility.

In our transitional housing, clients can gather in communal spaces to enjoy meals, watch their favorite TV shows, or engage in conversation, creating opportunities for emotional and social support. Private bedrooms give them the space they need to rest, reflect, and recharge. This blend of peer interaction and personal time encourages growth, both individually and collectively, paving the way for long-term success.

Who We Serve in Our Transitional Living Program

Transitional living at Turning Point Centers is available for clients who are:

  • Leaving a residential setting and are seeking a step-down option for continued growth
  • Working toward self-sufficiency while participating in another one of our programs for mental health concerns or co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders

The program is ideal for clients who’ve built a strong foundation in their recovery but need additional time and support to reinforce what they’ve learned, strengthen their resilience, and prepare for complete independence. To thrive in this community-oriented setting, they should demonstrate:

  • Passion and enthusiasm for their ongoing journey, fostering a positive and motivating atmosphere for everyone
  • Maturity and dependability, establishing consistency and trust within the household
  • The ability to set and maintain healthy boundaries for themselves and others
  • Organizational skills, contributing to clean and tidy living spaces

Benefits of Our Transitional Living Program

Taking part in the transitional living program at Turning Point Centers offers many advantages, including:

  • Consistent support: Clients receive unwavering support from our caring staff, helping them stay focused on their goals.
  • Access to medication-assisted treatment (MAT): For those who require it, medication-assisted treatment is available as part of a holistic approach to recovery.
  • Phased system of independence: Our program is designed to help individuals grow their confidence and capabilities over time, preparing them to excel in all areas of their lives — from their emotional and physical health to financial and social wellness.
  • Employment readiness: We offer job skills training and resume assistance to help clients reenter the workforce.
  • Focus on long-term success: Clients gain the tools necessary to make sustainable changes and achieve long-term success.
  • Community engagement: We partner with community organizations in a variety of ways, providing opportunities for clients to participate in meetings, recreational activities like volleyball and softball, and numerous events throughout the year.

A Structured Pathway to Independence

Transitional living serves as a structured pathway, bridging the gap between treatment and independence. Clients who are actively participating in our intensive outpatient or partial hospitalization programs can keep attending their therapeutic sessions while residing in our housing. Additionally, clients who’ve completed residential care can stay in our transitional homes postdischarge, allowing them to build on the progress they’ve made.

In either case, clients can practice the skills they’ve learned in a supportive setting with their peers. Within the residence, clients are responsible for various chores, maintaining a daily schedule, and following other rules to keep the household in order. These activities promote self-discipline, time management, and teamwork, all keys for a successful reintegration into society.

Outside of the home, clients are encouraged to explore avenues for further growth, such as finding employment, continuing their education, or volunteering. These opportunities help them apply their knowledge to real-life situations, enhancing their self-esteem and sense of autonomy. By stepping into different environments, talking to new people, and facing unfamiliar challenges, clients expand their comfort zones, improving their adaptability, communication, and problem-solving skills.
