  • Gender dysphoria
  • Obsessive-compulsive disorder
  • Major depressive disorder
  • Schizoaffective disorder
  • Schizophrenia
  • Anxiety
  • Self-harm
  • Suicidal ideation
  • Substance use disorders

Our PHP is designed for adults who need structured care but do not require the intensive services provided in inpatient programming. Clients can reside at home or in our sober living housing as they participate in our PHP five days per week. Typically, partial hospitalization programming at Turning Point Centers includes a total of 32 hours of individual and group care.

Clients can step down to our IOP from a more intensive program, or they can participate in our IOP without completing a higher level of care. Outside of therapy, they may attend school or work and take care of their responsibilities at home. Intensive outpatient programming is available in the morning and in the evening. On average, clients in our IOP participate in 10 hours of individual and group care per week.

Therapies & Services at Turning Point Centers

At Turning Point Centers, our outpatient programming is ideal for clients who need structured care with flexible scheduling options. We customize each person’s care based on the information we gather during a thorough assessment of their medical history, symptoms, strengths, and therapeutic goals.

Using what we learn about a client’s background and symptoms, we create a care plan for them that includes the therapies and services our staff believes are best for their needs. A client’s care plan may include:

  • Individual therapy: In weekly individual therapy sessions, clients can meet one-on-one with a counselor. These confidential sessions give clients the opportunity to express their feelings and get feedback and guidance from a mental health professional.
  • Group counseling: In group counseling, clients get the chance to meet each other and share their experiences. The support network clients build in group therapy can be very valuable and can help them long after they’ve left our care.
  • Online family group programming: Once a week, we hold a virtual family group meeting that allows clients and their family members to discuss topics like family dynamics and boundary setting. In these meetings, families can improve communication skills and work on their relationships.
  • Medication-assisted treatment (MAT): When clinically appropriate, we provide MAT for clients who are struggling with opioid addictions. MAT combines the use of FDA-approved medications with therapy to alleviate opioid withdrawal symptoms and help people avoid relapse.
  • Medical care: If clients need medical care, they can meet with our physician two times a week.
  • Medication management services: If medication is part of a client’s care plan, they can receive medication management services from our medical and mental health professionals.

Group therapy is an important part of care in our outpatient programming and may consist of psychoeducational and process groups. All therapy sessions are led by our experienced professionals who specialize in mental health and addiction care. Topics that may be covered during group therapy at Turning Point Centers include:

  • Relapse prevention
  • Conflict resolution
  • Coping strategies
  • Healthy boundaries
  • Medication education
  • Effective communication

Our professionals incorporate many evidence-based therapies into our programming, including:

  • Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT): Through CBT, clients can learn to identify and modify negative thought patterns that may be impacting their healing process. When clients use the tools they learn through CBT, they can handle overwhelming problems in a more positive way.
  • Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT): Counselors use dialectical behavior therapy to educate clients on how to balance acceptance and motivation to make healthy choices. Using DBT, therapists can teach people how to better regulate their emotions and control their actions.
  • Acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT): Through acceptance and commitment therapy, counselors help clients accept and make the changes they need to make to progress on their healing journeys. Through ACT, clients can learn how to put their energy into moving forward instead of focusing on negative feelings.
  • Motivational interviewing (MI): With motivational interviewing, a counselor asks the client a series of questions that can help them address mixed feelings about making choices that will improve their life. Motivational interviewing can be ideal for clients who may be having a difficult time making the changes it takes to heal.
  • Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR): With EMDR, the therapist guides the client through a series of procedures that can stimulate the brain to work bilaterally. EMDR has proved especially effective for clients who are experiencing the effects of trauma.
